New Year Round Here = Fresh Global Game Jam
Aspirations, encouragement, and our developer community
Happy 2024, everyone!
I hope you’ve all been enjoying the beginning of the year and it hasn’t felt too much like one long Monday. There’s so much to do, whether it be creatively, professionally, or balancing a personal + social life. All this to say; getting started on goals for the upcoming year. The work to be done is dizzying and the potentialities are endless.
Considering indie development and interactive art is our community focus, let’s get this game of life started and do our best to make 2024 a great year to be an indie dev.
This month’s newsletter is by Crystina. Here’s what you can expect to find:
Demystifying the famous Hextable
Our slice of Global Game Jam events
In person + virtual jam events for team formations
Upcoming Speaker Night + GGJ showcase
New and Friendly Faces at Weekly Coworking
Indie Spotlight: In Praise of the Hextable
Perhaps you’ve played one of the mini games on it and even have a favorite.
It’s such a spectacle, if you’ve visited our office, then you have surely noticed it..
Personally, I’ve wondered about the details of it ever since I first laid eyes on the colorful gaming box. Fancy the new page on our website where Michael spills the tea about the Hextable, including its origin story, contributors, and places it’s been featured.
It’ll be on display next week at Super MAGFest 2024, the largest music and gaming festival in the world (Jan 18-21). If you can’t make it out there, you can always try it out at our office space. Check out our peers in their indie video games showcase!
Indie game challenge (three levels)
Level 1 (for new folks): Stop by our office between 4:00-7:00pm during the after hours of a Thursday coworking sesh and play some Hextable mini games with us.
Level 2 (for the regulars): Try every mini game and maybe even pick a favorite.
Level 3 (Unity devs): Hop in Unity and try making one of your own games for it!
Upcoming Events
Saturday, Jan 20th: Meet n Greet for Team Forming + Theme Reveal Celebration for Global Game Jam 2024
Join us on a journey of collaboration and indie experimentation! Global Game Jam is the world's largest game creation event, bringing together developers, designers, artists, and amateur gaming enthusiasts from around the globe. Each year it’s a novel chance to collaborate, experiment, and create games within a limited time frame, often with fellow collaborators.
The theme for GGJ will be revealed between 1:00pm-2:00pm EST. We’ll be hosting a celebration and team pairing session to help people connect with like-minded game enthusiasts, share ideas, and spark conversations that could lead to the formation of incredible teams. This will be in our office from 12pm - 6pm. Stop by any time!
RSVP on Meetup here or reach out to @Crystina Halcyon on our discord to save your spot for attendance.

Coworking Highlights
Every Thursday we’ve been hosting coworking starting at 2pm, and I’m happy to announce that this tradition will be continuing into 2024. Come on by, meet some fellow indie game devs and/or interactive artists, and even get some work done.
After hours begin around 4:30pm, where we take advantage of the free beers or seltzer waters generously provided in the lobby of Frontier RTP. We’ve been getting crafty with it, as well as pulling out some board games. Check the Meetup event for more info on what you can expect after hours for that particular coworking session.
It’s been an honor to support Triangle Interactive. I’m thrilled to be able to mingle with ya’ll and look forward to new faces in addition to getting to know our regulars.
Cheers to new horizons!
